Dear Student,
(a) Position 1: In position 1 the brightness of bulb A is higher because there is only one resistor in the circuit so all voltage is only provided to bulb A.
Position 2: In position 2 brightness of bulb A is slightly low in comparison to position 1 although the current is same in both positions but addition of another resistor that is bulb B drop the voltage across the circuit.
In a series circuit the current is the same at any particular point on the circuit. The voltage in a series circuit, however, does not remain constant. The voltage drops across each resistor. The total voltage drop across all resistors will add up to the voltage off the power source.
